Sunglass Hut Half Price Sunglass Replacement RIP OFF

Say you buy a pair of sunglasses from Sunglass Hut and you accidentally break them within the year of purchase, Sunglass Hut claims to replace them for you for half the price stating that “if you break or scratch them, we’ll sell you another pair at 50% off”

So this is how their system works:
  1. Say for example you buy a pair of $400 Prada sunglasses

  2. But then you break them within 12 months (the fact that a pair of designer sunglasses breaks within a year is beyond me...but we will get to the quality bullshit later.)

  3. Sunglass Hut claims you can come back to them to replace that pair of Sunglasses

  4. So that means you have to pay an additional $200.

  5. So $400+$200 equals $600 on ONE pair of sunglasses in ONE year!

But the REAL CATCH here, is that YOU PAY 50% of the original price for replacement, yet the company (SUCH AS PRADA) provide Sunglass Hut with your replacement sunglasses FOR FREE!

So their pocketing 150% of the Retail Price of the sunglasses you initially purchased.

NOW IS THEIR WARRANTY REALLY WORTH IT? I THINK NOT...BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE DAY, SUNGLASS HUT, THEIR STAFF AND THEIR POLICIES SUCK! AND ARE AIMED AT GOBBLING MONEY OUT OF THEIR UNWARY CONSUMERS!!

  1. Obviously YOU need to get your information straight the warranty is as follows:

90 day no hassle return policy!
1 yr defective warranty- that is something that is considered defective and cannot be repaired we will replace your glasses with the same model or something that equals what you paid initially and LASTLY 1 year SRD (sunglass replacement discount) - whatever happens to your sunglass during the first year you can bring hem in to any sunglass hut, and you will receive 50% off meaning- if you paid 100 dlls for your sunglasses & you wreck them you bring them and you will get a NEW pair at 50dlls because you will have your 50% credit so thats basically 2 sunglasses for 150dlls! Saving yourself 50dlls & so on. I dont think any other retailer backs you up for a year for accidents on sunglasses! Soo, my suggestion TO ALL YOU that have things to critique get your things STRAIGHT before running your mouth! - take on the advice, THINK before you SPEAK...don't just SPEAK before you THINK!

    1. I mostly agree with you about them getting facts straight. The 90 day return policy is junk though because i had micro scratches on my lens and they would not accept the return. You couldnt see them unless shining a bring light on them as they have in the store.

  2. Bull I just went back to return a pair of Burberry sunglasses I have had for less then a year because the fabric is peeling off only one of the arms and I was told to call the manufacturer. They offered no other assistance. Sooooo, you get your story straight before you spout off about something.

  3. I just used the replacement discount and was very disappointed. I bought a pair of Prada's six months ago and I LOVED them, but they dropped and lens cracked. I took them back hoping to get the same pair as it was still offered on their website and they told me that they no longer had them and they couldn't order them. I told the sales associate that it was unfair that I couldn't use the replacement discount that they offered (the reason I purchased these glasses from Sunglass Hut in the first place) because they no longer carried that particular pair of glasses. She replied with, "I guess you can just pick a different pair of Prada's then..." She was soo rude and made me feel like I was trying to scam her when I only wanted to use the replacement discount that they offered! I didn't like any of the other Prada sunglasses that they had so I ended up being stuck with my broken pair. Screw the replacement discount, I'll never purchase sunglasses from them again.

  5. It's a rip off, and is commonly falsely advertised. 1 year maximum, even though many sales folks will tell you that they have complete damage replacement policy. And, to make matters worse, Sunglass Hut makes a distinction amongst brands, e.g. Maui Jim = call the manufacturer. This policy was NOT always this way. 5+ years back you could take your receipt back in, and Sunglass Hut would work with you. And, if you think about, given a 2-3x markup, they are losing NOTHING. So, now there's no reason NOT to look for the cheapest price online. See ya later, Sunglass Hut.

  6. I took my Maui Jims back as the frame had broken and they said they would be repaired. They are back from the manufacturer and they want $65.95 for the repair. Glasses costs $285. Surely I can pay for my repair, keep the repaired sunglasses and under the guarantee purchase another pair for 50% of the retail?
