Maui Jim & Luxottica Split Up

The respected Sunglasses brand for nearly 30 years, Maui Jim have announced that they have parted ways with their manufacturer, Luxottica.

Luxottica (also referred to Suxottica by many...because they suck), have used bullying tactics in order to force Maui Jim to sell Luxottica their sunglasses at a much cheaper price, so Luxottica can buy them cheaply and sell them at an ridiculously high mark-up price to Maui Jim customers. So Luxottica pockets more money, while Maui Jim customers are ripped off.

Maui Jim did not approve Luxotticas techniques and their sunglasses will no longer be manufactured by Luxottica. It is really respectful that Maui Jim, known for designing some of the best polarized lenses on their functional sunglasses, have felt the need to stand up for their company values and not be pressured into forced dealing with Luxottica. However Maui Jim isn't the first company to be displeased with Luxotticas service, as many brands have not had a positive experience dealing with them.

Luxottica tries to dominate, over produce, and reduce the quality of items. For example, those with a discerning eye will note that the quality of many sunglasses stocked in Sunglass Hut stores have reduced in significantly in quality such as Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, Ray Ban, Bvglari and many more. It is no longer exclusive, classy or valuable to buy or own brands produced by Luxottica and stocked at Sunglass Hut.

If you want to read and comment on the Luxottica and Maui Jim split, here is a link to a post written by the Celebrity Sunglasses Finder website.

How you can avoid Sunglass Hut

Stop feeding the money machine that is Sunglass Hut and Luxottica!!

As Ira Mitchell from Suxottica.com pointed out so well,
"You NEED your glasses, you don’t NEED to be ripped off to see!" And we stand by that 1000000%!!

The following information is copyright of Suxottica another site helping customers realise how their buying activities are affecting the market place, overpricing by Sunglass Hut and the monopolisation of Luxottica.

Extract by Ira Mitchell

"Our government continues to ignore the fact that Luxottica is removing the competition from the market one acquisition at a time. The fact that they are involved from manufacturing and licensing, retail, and even “insurance” (which will always live inside quotes on the Suxottica site as it’s really nothing more than a marketing program) makes the Microsoft anti-trust stuff look ridiculous, yet the government continues to allow it. I’m quite suspicious of this.

Prices will continue to go up — that is unless we hit them where it hurts and force some major changes in this industry. They’ve made billions in profits by taking extreme advantage of our inability to see without eyeglasses. Their one-hour service made it impossible to ignore them especially when it was difficult to afford more than one pair of current-prescription eyeglasses at a time. There is no longer any reason to be stuck in that situation.

Here are a few ways that you can help “stick it back to them":
  1. Become familiar with the Luxottica brands and stores and avoid them entirely.
  2. Shop online. Order a spare pair for 1/10 the price of a pair at LensCrafters. Don’t get stuck NEEDING glasses when yours are broken.
  3. Share your experiences with your friends whether they wear glasses or not. Use the Internet to chronicle your online purchases. Help make this viral! People NEED TO KNOW that there are other options!

Sunglass Hut Half Price Sunglass Replacement RIP OFF

Say you buy a pair of sunglasses from Sunglass Hut and you accidentally break them within the year of purchase, Sunglass Hut claims to replace them for you for half the price stating that “if you break or scratch them, we’ll sell you another pair at 50% off”

So this is how their system works:
  1. Say for example you buy a pair of $400 Prada sunglasses

  2. But then you break them within 12 months (the fact that a pair of designer sunglasses breaks within a year is beyond me...but we will get to the quality bullshit later.)

  3. Sunglass Hut claims you can come back to them to replace that pair of Sunglasses

  4. So that means you have to pay an additional $200.

  5. So $400+$200 equals $600 on ONE pair of sunglasses in ONE year!

But the REAL CATCH here, is that YOU PAY 50% of the original price for replacement, yet the company (SUCH AS PRADA) provide Sunglass Hut with your replacement sunglasses FOR FREE!

So their pocketing 150% of the Retail Price of the sunglasses you initially purchased.

NOW IS THEIR WARRANTY REALLY WORTH IT? I THINK NOT...BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE DAY, SUNGLASS HUT, THEIR STAFF AND THEIR POLICIES SUCK! AND ARE AIMED AT GOBBLING MONEY OUT OF THEIR UNWARY CONSUMERS!!

Sunglass Hut fake 14 day Refund Policy

Whenever you purchase a pair of sunglasses from Sunglass Hut, the receipt clearly states that "if you change your mind or are unsatisfied with your purchase, we gaureentee a 14 day refund or exchange on your sunglasses".

However, now they claim that by law they don't have to provide you with a refund even though it expressly states so! This is fraud in a cunning way, they reel you in with an extra promise of a refund if for any reason you are unsatisfied, yet they feel they don't have to go through with it if they simply don't feel like it. This is a breach of many trading practices and raises a lot of consumer affairs problems.

Sunglass Hut has refused customers a refund in the past, with one retail assistant stating that she was not going to refund the sunglasses because "she wants to maintain the daily budget". IT IS NOT UP TO THE COMPANY TO DECIDE WHEN AND WHO THEY ARE GOING TO GIVE A REFUND TO!!

It is your right, no matter how many times you wish to exchange or refund!

If you have any problems with refunds or exchanges, make sure to immediately make a complaint with the consumer watchdog or Consumer Commission in your country!

If you feel in anyway, you where done wrong by don't hesitate to make a complaint to a Consumer Affairs Commission.

Brands Sold at Sunglass Hut

This is a list of the following brands sold at sunglass hut and why you SHOULD buy them at ANOTHER RETAILER.

The reason Sunglass Hut has so many brands is because their manufacturer Luxottica (also referred to as Suxottica) is buying out all the brands and distributing them in Sunglass Hut. By doing this, Luxottica produces the same quality sunglasses under different brand names.

E.g: Bvlgari sunglasses used to mean high quality but now there is no different in quality between a pair of Bvlgari sunglasses and a pair of Vogue sunglasses, as they are all manufactured under the same company.

The only difference is the image that the company portrays of each brand, thus making you pay $700 for a pair of crystal embellished Bvlgari sunglasses and oly $150 for a pair of Vogue sunglasses. Either way, your being ripped off.

Owning a pair of designer sunglasses used to mean being able to have a unique pair of sunglasses that no one else owns, but today, Sunglass Hut has made brands such as Prada come across as cheap due to the massive over-production of each style. Everywhere you turn, someone else is wearing the exact same sunglasses as you! Like the Prada model seen in the picture.

Brands that Sunglass Hut stock and over price include:

  • Arnette
  • Bolle
  • Burberry
  • Bvlgari
  • Club Monaco
  • D & G
  • Dolce and Gabbana
  • DKNY
  • Ed Hardy
  • Electric
  • Gucci
  • Guess
  • Juicy Couture
  • Maui Jim
  • Mosley Tribes
  • Oakley
  • Persol
  • Prada
  • Ralph Lauren
  • Ray Ban
  • Revo
  • Spy
  • Tiffany and Co
  • Versace
  • Vogue

Shop at Sunglass Hut at your own risk. If you do, you'll lose the power to bargain, price match or buy unique models that Sunglass Hut doesn't stock.

Customer Service at Sunglass Hut

When you walk into a Sunglass Hut store, before you can even get your two feet in the door, some annoying clueless assistant will be up in your face with a smile as big and cheesy as a cartoon cat's asking you "if you need any help". The only person that needs help is the dumb broad who should be stabbed in the face with a high dose of Botox to get rid of that fake considerate smile.

Even though there are days that you just feel like browsing to kill time, those vultures are making you try on pairs and suggesting pairs that you completely and utterly don't like. They think they are your personal stylist and treat you like you don't have your own taste and style. They try and force you into buying or lay-bying, and in those cases all you need to do is give them a firm "i'm not buying, let me just look!", and looking is NOT a crime.

The other thing that makes me chuckle all the time, is that the sales assistance don't have a clue about the styles and models they have. One particular circumstance, my friend walked in and tried on a pair of Versace sunglasses and the sales assistant had no idea what to say in order to sell them so she said "Oh those are gorgeous, Angelina Jolie also owns those sunglasses". My friend, an avid Angelina Jolie fan and owner of one of her online fansites was quick to jump in by saying:

Friend: "really? when exactly was Angelina seen wearing them?"

Sales Assistant: "In a magazine"

Friend: "Which magazine?"

Sales Assistant: (now nervously) It was ages ago

Friend: So that means these sunglasses are an old model?

Sales Assistant: No, actually it might not of been Angelina

Friend: Why would you say that then?..anyways we gotta go.

Don't feed us shit to sell a pair of overpriced sunglasses...we're not stupid

Sunglass Hut Sucks

Okay, so the bottom line is, i HATE Sunglass Hut with a passion.

The company is monopolising as we speak, and it's consumers like you that allow it!

When one company expands all over the world to provide you with "designer sunglasses at your convenience", you are slowly helping them eliminate all competition.

In regards to Sunglass Hut, they are dominating the sunglasses industry, this means that individual boutiques, optometrists, authentic online stores and other manufacturers are fazing out.

If you allow competitors to vanish, then Sunglass Hut will feel free to:

  • Mark up their prices

  • Manufacture lower quality sunglasses with higher profit rating

  • Provide lower customer service

  • And refuse to follow through with their 14 day refund policy

oh and is Sunglass even a word?
